  • Biography/ Background

My teaching and research interests are focused on understanding the central mechanisms underlying the acute and chronic effects of drugs of abuse and dependence.   I am currently investigating the neurotoxic effects of amphetamine derivatives such as methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA, ‘ecstasy’) and p-methoxyamphetamine (PMA). I am also involved in a research project investigating the role of endogenous adenosine and the 3-glucuronide metabolite of morphine in expression of opiate withdrawal syndrome in rats.  Most of these projects involve using microdialysis technique.
