Biography/ Background
Kamal joined ARCPOH in Jan 2013. He is an Oral Surgeon. Kamal is from Egypt. He graduated in the Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University in 1998 with a grade Very Good. After his graduation, he worked as Dentist for 3 years in National Health Service of Egypt. In 2001, he joined a 5 years Residential Training Program of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery leading to a Fellowship of Egyptian Board that was awarded to him in 2006. In 2007, he was awarded the Membership of Oral Surgery of The Royal College of Edenbutgh (MOSRCSEd).
In 2008, He was awarded MSc. Oral Surgery (by research), Cairo University. His research investigated the impact of handpiece speed on post-operative oedema after surgical removal of mandibular third molar via a controlled clinical trial.
In the same year, 2008, Kamal joined Glasgow Dental Hospital and School as a staff grade (speciality doctor) Oral Surgery. He was involved in supervising the undergraduate students in oral surgery clinics and also involved in undergraduate teaching for oral surgery.
In late 2009, he joined Sunderland Royal Hospital. In 2010, he joined Luton and Dunstable Hospital. In 2011, he returned to Egypt to work as an Oral Surgeon with the National Health Service.
While working with patients, in different scopes of dental services, and also in different countries, he found that, the provided patient educational materials are difficult to be understood by them. Moreover, he realised that, patients surf the internet for more information that satisfies their needs; but the information they gain is not very accurate or up-to-date, affecting their treatment preferences and satisfaction. Kamal’s research aims to evaluate the impact of patient-centred dental open educational resources on enhancing a shared clinical decision–making in dental practice. He was awarded an ASI scholarship to conduct this research.
