Biography/ Background
Prof Kapil Chousalka joined The University of Adelaide in August 2011. Kapil gained his Master’s degree in Veterinary Microbiology from India in 2004. He spent two years as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of New England after completing his PhD in Virology in 2007. From 2009-2011 Kapil was a Lecturer in the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga. Kapil is now leading the food safety and avian health research group at the University of Adelaide. Kapil won over 5 million dollars in funding over the last five years, published 119 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, and delivered over 32 invited talks. Kapil teaches avian medicine, food safety, poultry production, and quality to veterinary and animal science students and provides veterinary services to Egg farmers in South Australia.

Research Interests
Dr. Chousalkar has a strong research interest in microbiology, Food safety and Molecular diagnostics. Kapil is currently leading food safety research group at the Roseworthy campus of the University of Adelaide. Kapil’s group’s research uses genomics, molecular biology, epidemiology, animal models and field studies to address broad range of issues related to invasive NT Salmonella spp. with aim to understand the zoonosis.

Research Funding
Kapil's research is funded from competitive industry and commonwealth grants. The Australian Egg Corporation, Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry and Cooperative Research Centres (Poultry CRC) have funded his research over the last four years.
