Biography/ Background
A/Prof. Turner is the NRF Director of Neurosurgical Research and currently heads the Translational Neuropathology Laboratory within
the School of Medicine at the University of Adelaide. Her research is focused on improving the translation of novel treatments
from laboratory studies into the clinic, through the use of appropriate pre-clinical models. Her research is targeted at elcudating
the mechanisms of blood-brain barrier breakdown, development of cerebral oedema and neuronal injury following acute injuries
to the brain such as stroke, concussion and traumatic brain injury to reduce disability and improve outcomes. More recently, her research interests have expanded to include long-term outcomes following stroke, such as neurodegeneration, as well as examining the systemic and gastrointestinal response to CNS injury and disease.Â

Teaching Interests
A/Prof Turner teaches into the Health Science, Nursing and Medicine programs on the normal structure and function of the nervous and cardiovascular systems as well as pathology of the nervous and cardiovasular systems.
She is also the Neurosciences majors convenor within the Health and Medical Sciences program.

Research Funding
Since establishing her laboratory in 2010, A/Prof Renée Turner has received competitive research funding of more than $3 million. Notably, she has been awarded 3 NHMRC grants (as CIA or co-chief investigator), in addition to funding from the National Stroke Foundation, Brain Foundation and Neurosurgical Research Foundation.

Community Engagement
A/Prof Turner is actively involved in Science communication and community engagement through her involvement in events such as Kids Navigate Neuroscience (National Sciecne Week), Neuroscience at Night (National Science Week), Brain Food (National Science Week), Adelaide Compass Program, Children's University and Univeristy of Adelaide Open Day. A/Prof Turner has a long-standing affiliation with the Neurosurgical Resarch Foundation which raises funds for research into neurological conditions in South Australian laboratories.
